We do two types of photography: Picture Day portraiture (team and individual photos), where we bring in our portable studio equipment and crew to your location, and live action Event and Performance Photography which, by it's very nature, Iis done at state and national tournaments and competitions.
In General Picture Day makes up a great deal of our portrait photography services. Gyms, schools, and rec centers can make a simple call or email us to book a date for your Picture Day. Picture Day includes individual and team photos of all your gymnasts in poses selected by your organization or selected by the gymnast. Buddy poses, shots with parents or coaches, awards, appreciation, and other photo requitements can also be easily accommodated. Parents can also call us independent of their gym or school to have a Private Portrait Session done at our studios with their child. Info for Organizations Picture Day with Arizona Sport Shots is very simple. We come to your facility, school, or rec center to do the photography. We bring in all the necessary portable equipment, staff and pro photographers and assistants to handle anywhere from 50 to 500 or more kids. Our staff may range from 3 or 4 or many more, depending on the total number of gymnasts to be photographed. Most shoots however, require only one, two or three photographers and staff. Booking Studio owners, school and rec center instructors can make a simple call or email us to book a date Picture Day. You have your choice of your location our our studios. When shooting at our studios, there is an automatic $10 per dancer charge to each dancer for studio time (posing fee). The real advantage of the studio is it allows us to take more dramatic photos using a variety of props and special lighting with backdrops, colored gels, smoke machines, wind fans, trampolines, and so forth. Order Forms Approximately two weeks before the scheduled Picture Day, Order Forms will be provided to you to give to your gymnasts. About 5 days before Picture Day, you are expected to send out an email blast to all the gymnasts and their parents reminding them of the date and times for Picture Day. Parents simply select a Package from the Order Form and include their payment or credit card information. Then the gymnast brings this Order Form and payment with them to Picture Day and when it's their turn to be photographed, they give the Order Form to the photographer or his/her assistant. Customers can also order Add-On photos and products such as posters, giant stick-on wall photos, acrylic photo cut-out statuettes, team photo banners, and more. In fact, we donate 10% of our net earnings back to your studio, booster club or rec center to benefit your programs. You Provide The only thing you need to provide to us is an empty air conditioned windowless room (unless their are curtains to block out sunlight) measuring approximately 30 x 35 feet or greater with a level, unobstructed floor, along with about 10 chairs and a small banquet table. In addition, we must have easy access to at least two different electrical outlets. Posing Posing is an art in itself and we're very good at it. While many youth acitivities might have a few standard traditional poses, gymnasts poses are highly individualistic primarily because of the varied equipment or performances they engage such as floor exercises, beam, vault, rings, bars, etc. And we find that gymnastic poses . Fortunately, most gymnastic instructors prefer to pose the groups themselves and we encourage them to do so. For individual shots, we ask that each gymnast have two of their favorite poses in mind for Picture Day. This helps to move things along quickly without confusion. When we're photographing kids at the gym, we do ask that parents be kept outside of the room and not assist in posing unless we ask for their help. The reason for this is simple, most parents cannot resist the temptation of taking out their point-and-shoot camera or cell phones and taking pictures as we're trying to pose and photograph the group or individual gymnasts. The child's tendency, of course, is to look toward their parent. Now imagine four, five, or six parents doing this. With our Private Studio Sessions, portraiture can be staged, improvisational, live action, or simulated action poses done either indoors or outdoors or both. Often, at the competitions we cover, you'll see that we have also set up a portable portrait studio for taking group and individual and awards photos. Portraiture then, allows us to control both our environment, lighting, and subject. In event action photography, controlling any of those elements is extremely difficult.
The following represents edited questions we have received from organizers, coaches, and parents over the last few years regarding our services. What does our gym need to provide to you for the Picture Day shoot? A couple of 4 x 6 (or 4 x 8) banquet tables and about eight chairs would be helpful. It's also necessary for us to have easy access to two separate electrical outlets and we'll need an empty, windowless room (unless their are curtains to block out the sunlight) that is at least 30 x 40 feet in size with sufficient air conditioning. We're looking for someone for our gym in Tucson. Do you cover this area? Yes, we do a great deal of Picture Day and championship event photography in the Greater Tucson areas for gyms, schools, and rec centers. In fact, we cover the entire Soutwest U.S. Just give us a call to make arrangements. What are your prices for photos? Our prices are modest with photos starting for as little as $11 (prices subject to change without notice) and Packages at $19 and up. Of course, Add-Ons such as Acrylic Photo Statuettes, Giant Photo Wall Stick-Ons, Posters, etc., are extra. Where can we see a copy of your Order Form? There are several companies with lower prices who offer less value and, unfortunately, in many cases, less quality. "You get what you pay for" has never been more true than in the photography business, This is primarily because of the many amateurs in the business who neglect to tell you they are amateurs. Can parents re-order more of their child's photos? Yes, but we limit the time you have to do so to 60 days. Keep in mind that prices are subject to change without notice. Are there any hidden fees? All of our fees or product prices are listed on our Order Form. Standard portrait fees such as "sitting" fees are built into our prices for leagues, large clubs and gyms, and schools. But if your team or combined team(s) or group(s) totals less than twenty-five (25) players then there is a non-refunable sitting fee of $10 for each player having individual photos taken. We consider this fee very modest, and our time, equipment, and expertise valuable. To avoid this fee simply combine two or three of your teams, or more, to meet this 25 player minimum. For example, a school might schedule their freshman, jv, and varsity teams all on the same day and location. When can parents expect to receive their photos? Usually within 2-3 weeks. For special photo products, such as posters, please add one more week (your photos will come with your extra products ordered). Sometimes photot can take a little longer, for example, near holidays, or if we're designing a special digital frame for your team or organization. In those cases the total time can run 3-5 weeks on the outside. In most cases, the norm is about 2-3 weeks.
Info for Parents Where can we find the Picture Day schedule? Your own organization usually sets the scheduled times for Picture Day and will probably email them to the parents and post them on their website. If not, we will happily provide a schedule to you that we have arranged with your organization. What do we need to bring to Picture Day? Your child (properly suited up and groomed neatly), along with your Order Form and enclosed payment. Be sure to include both your telephone number and email address (which we keep confidential) as we often contact parents with questions that might arise. It's also helpful if you remind your child to haveat least two or three of their favorite poses in mind. Any specific grooming tips? Try to remind your child not to eat anything that will stain their face around the mouth area such as popsicles or snow cones, or other similar treats. What are your prices for photos? For example, a school might schedule their freshman, jv, and varsity teams all on the same day and location. How will we know if the "sitting fee" applies to our daughter's gym? It will be marked on the Order Form. For example, if you're a small gym or group and the total number of your kids to be photographed is less than 25, it will be noted on the Order Form that the sitting fee ($10 per gymnast) will apply. Add that amount to your total. If your group(s) totals more than twenty-five, the sitting fee notation will be crossed out with a colored felt pen. In any case, the sitting fee usually only applies to Make-Up Day or small club teams or groups. In addition to the pose used in the Picture Day individual photos, I would like to have my child photographed in several different action poses. What will that cost me? There is $19 non-refundable sitting fee for 3 extra poses or $29 for 5 extra poses if you want extra photos taken of your child. This will give you a greater selection of poses to chose from. But If you have ordered a Poster of any kind or a Wall Stick-On Photo there is no added charge to take these extra shots. Remember too that these are not counted as your Package selections (A-D) but rather, as Add-Ons at corresponding prices (see Order Form). You can only order Extra Poses if you have ordered a Package. Can I help with my daughter's posing? Not unless we ask for your assistance. If we allowed this, every parent would want to do the same. Can we pick and choose the photos we like? If you're paying the $19 or $29 "extra poses" fee, you're entitled to select any or all of those images to have prints made from or put on CD for you. In that case, the images will be posted on our website where you can view and select one or all of the different poses. If this is a private shoot of your child, you can proof and select the photos you want to purchase in person or online. Can I purchase our photos as digital images on a CD instead of receiving prints? Yes. But you will still have to select a Package at the prevailing price plus the added cost of those images in digitital form which can range from $50 to $79 depending on the Package you have selected. The images cannot be a team photo, or buddy shot. They can be shots with a parent or coach. In such cases, you'll recieve a CD with your Package images in digital form and if there is a team or buddy shot (Add-On) you'll receive those as single prints in the size you have chosen. My daughter wants to do her own pose, do you allow that? Sure, but sometimes this can interfere with the time schedule we are on. Therefore we ask that you contact your gym's Picture Day coordinator well in advance to get their okay. If you want more than one pose of your child, there is a $19 charge for 3 extra poses and $29 for 5. My child likes the beam and bars, is there a charge to have her photographed on that equipment? We are generally brought in to do the entire gym's group and individual photos. The gym generally likes these to be quick and hassle-free with the individual pose selected by the gymnast, the instructor, or by us. To photograph a gymnast on their preferred equipment would necessitate setting up studio lights and backdrops over by the equipment and would probably. That would all have to be arranged with the gym director in advance. Most gyms simply don't want this done on Picture Day so you might want to consider contacting us for a Private Session with you and your child. However, if you can find a day where your gym owner will allow us to come in and photograph your child in simulated action poses on the equipment of their choice, we'd be happy to do so. In that case, this is considered a "on-location" Private Portrait Session. There would be a $50 "on-location" charge plus the $150 photo session charge. Prints are extra. Normally we have 5, 6, or more parents get together on this and we can then do a "group" price which would be substantially less. If you want your child to be standing or sitting on the equipment that is okay. If your want them to be actually performing, you would need to make arrangements to have a certified spotter in attendance or we can provide one for $50 per hour. If we are out of town on Picture Day, will there be a Make-Up Day? If your organization decides that a sufficient number of its members were absent to warrant it then we are happy to accomodate you. Kindly check with your organization. Keep in mind, that we need a minimum of 25 kids othewise there will be an added $10 sitting fee per person added to your order form. When can we expect our photos? Usually within 2-3 weeks. For special photo products, such as posters, please add one more week (your photos will come with your extra products ordered). Sometimes photos can take a little longer, for example, near holidays or if we're designing a special digital frame for your team or organization. In those cases the total time can run 3-5 weeks on the outside. In most cases, the norm is about 2-3 weeks. What if there is a mistake or problem with our photos? We'll resolve it immediately to your satisfaction.
